INSTRUCTIONS
Frying in Oil:
In a food processor, combine drained chickpeas, chopped onion, minced garlic, fresh parsley, ground cumin, ground coriander (if using), salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if you want it spicy).
Blend until you get a smooth mixture. If it's too watery, add more flour until the mixture is thick enough to form into balls.
Shape the mixture into small balls, roughly the size of walnuts.
Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. To check if the oil is hot enough, drop a small piece of the falafel mixture into the oil. If it sizzles and turns golden brown in about 30 seconds, the oil is ready.
Carefully place the falafel balls into the hot oil and fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
Remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Baking in the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 200ยฐC (400ยฐF).
Shape the falafel mixture into small balls as mentioned in the frying instructions.
Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly greased with oil.
Bake the falafel for about 20-25 minutes, turning them halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.
Remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
Using an Air Fryer:
Shape the falafel mixture into small balls, following the same instructions as above.
Preheat your air fryer to 200ยฐC (400ยฐF).
Place the falafel balls in the air fryer basket, making sure not to overcrowd them.
Air fry the falafel for about 12-15 minutes, shaking or turning them occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy.
Remove them from the air fryer and let them cool slightly before serving.
Enjoy your homemade falafel, whether fried, baked, or air-fried, with bread, salad, and your favorite sauce!
