A Drink to Effectively Alleviate Heartburn
We won't be suggesting the age-old remedy of drinking milk – in fact, that might worsen the situation by triggering the stomach to produce more acid.
Heartburn, that uncomfortable burning sensation in the throat or the pit of the stomach, occurs when stomach acid begins to seep into the esophagus. After a meal, some food refluxing upwards is normal, but later on, the lower esophageal sphincter should put a stop to it. However, various factors can weaken this sphincter, causing it to remain open for longer periods or even constantly.
Consequently, food regurgitates frequently, irritating the nerve endings in the esophageal wall. This irritation is felt as a burning sensation moving uncomfortably up the throat and can be exacerbated by potent foods like alcohol, garlic, tomatoes, coffee, peppers, cucumbers, and fatty foods.
Prepare a soothing drink to alleviate this burning sensation:
In a blender, combine ingredients that can quell heartburn and prevent acid reflux:
Banana, known for its heartburn-soothing properties
Juice of one lemon
A tablespoon of honey
A pinch of ginger
Melon or watermelon, which aids in preventing reflux
A few sprigs of parsley
Note: Contrary to a common misconception, you don't need to avoid consuming lemon when experiencing heartburn. In fact, lemon is a natural remedy for heartburn, so make sure it's included in your list of ingredients.
